Thanks to a second-day surge, Gilbert Perry boys golf team won the Dorado Invitational last weekend at Rio Rico Country Club.

The Pumas were in fifth place, seven shots behind first-round leader Tucson Canyon del Oro, but then they caught fire. Perry shot a second-day total of 296, 11 shots better than Tucson Ironwood Ridge and Sierra Vista Buena, to leapfrog everyone and win the title (449) by five shots over CDO.

Mesa Mountain View (475) took sixth place. Queen Creek (484) was eighth and Cave Creek Cactus Shadows was 10th with 493. Chandler, Gilbert and Mesa Dobson rounded out the top 15.

Much like his teammates, Perry’s Jordan Lowery won medalist honors with a second-day flurry. After a 37 on Friday, he shot a 4-under 68 on Saturday for a 27-hole total of 105 for a one-stroke win over Queen Creek’s Ajay Wilson (34-72-106).

Jacob Smith (Perry) took seventh with a 110. Mountain View’s Michael Willett (111) was in a four-way tie for eighth and Garrett Moss took 14th place for the Pumas.
