Williams Field quarterback Nick Gaylord sprained a ligament in his foot in Friday’s season opener against Dysart and will miss a couple weeks, coach Steve Campbell said.
Gaylord was 3-for-6 for 60 yards passing and ran for 38 yards on eight carries from the quarterback position in the 56-28 win over Dysart. He also split out to wide receiver on occasion and caught two balls for 106 yards and a touchdown.
Backup quarterback Tom Ross was 3-for-4 for 140 yards and two touchdowns against Dysart. He is a dropback passer while Gaylord is more of a dual-threat quarterback, so Williams Field’s playcalling might change slightly in Friday’s contest against Flagstaff.
