Higley has new A.D.

June 22nd, 2009, 3:31 pm · 3 Comments · posted by Mark Heller

Given the enormous budget cuts in Higley, Gilbert and everywhere else, Jennifer Burks knows she may be walking into an ulcer, but that was no reason to shy away from becoming Higley’s new athletic director.

Besides, she already knew what was coming. Burks has been at the school since it opened in 2001. She was the boys and girls cross country track coach for the past eight years (eventually the job was split and she was the girls’ coach), led the track program last year, an assistant track coach for four years prior and golf coach for one year.

Burks replaces Anthony Malaj, who’s moving to the Higley district office  to help with maintenance and operations of the district’s buildings and facilities.

Too bad they will still suck at football!!!!!

A stellar promotion. The administration at Higley got that one right. When other districts see what a quality job she’s doing, she be in demand. It might be a good idea to pony up a decent raise for Burks before she exits to greener pastures.

They got it right and wrong. Burks was a great choice for AD, we have had 3 kids come through the school, I agree with the statement above, she will be in high demand. As far as Mr. Malaj goes, out of the school is better, but out of the district would have been best. His people skills could use a refresher course.
