Tie games will be finished

April 29th, 2009, 11:24 am · 1 Comment · posted by Les Willsey

The Arizona Interscholastic Association sent out gentle e-mail reminders to its member schools Monday that any tie baseball or softball gamesĀ  not yet resumed and finished need to be before state tournaments begin this weekend and next weekend.

In 5A that means that on three tie games will completed on Thursday: Gilbert High will visit Phoenix Pinnacle, Casa Grande travels to Sierra Vista Buena, and Surprise Valley Vista visits Avondale Westview. With a precedent being set last year to finish tie games and several schools already completing tie games from earlier this season, it was absolutely the correct, fair thing to do.

You seem intent on the ties being played off but did not cover why they ended in a tie. What is the cost for schools like Gilbert HS to go back across the valley to Pinnacle to play one inning because Pinnacle does not have lights? The schools without lights should take some responsibilty for the lack of lights and play the tie at the school with lights. Share some of the cost.
