Perspective on Hamilton’s win

August 30th, 2008, 2:08 pm · 5 Comments · posted by craigmorgan

Give props to Chandler Hamilton for its victory over Miami Booker T. Washington on Friday. The Huskies traveled across the country and beat the Miami Herald’s No.1 team and the defending 4A Florida state champ in its own backyard. Every Arizona school should thank Hamilton for representing the state so well.

But before we go anointing Hamilton as a national power let’s put the win in perspective. Booker T. Washington’s enrollment is more than a thousand students fewer than Hamilton’s and there are two higher classifications of prep football in Florida (5A and 6A). To be blunt, Hamilton should always beat a school that much smaller.

Sure, Washington had a lofty national ranking in some publications, but if Friday’s game proved anything, it is that national prep rankings are absurd. Teams don’t play each other enough to form a reasonable comparison. Publications like USA Today create national rankings to sell newspapers and draw readers to their Web site. Period. National power? Maybe so. Or maybe there are eight teams in Ohio alone that could handle the Huskies. We’ll never know.

So enjoy Hamilton’s win for what it is. And stay tuned for a much bigger and more telling matchup on Friday when Hamilton faces defending 5A-I state champ Phoenix Brophy in what is rapidly becoming the state’s best rivalry.

Why is it that Hamilton goes to an out-of-state game, kicks ass, blows away the competition, only to get picked apart on how we had better watch ourselves or enjoy the win for what it is. Are you kidding me? Did you pick apart Brophy’s win??? I didn’t think so. Pretty sad that you can’t just let Hamilton have their win without negative comments… and don’t tell me they weren’t negative because they sure as hell weren’t positive!

GOOD SCRIMPS: You saw what you wanted to see in my blog.

There are plenty of positive comments in this blog.

The entire first paragraph: “Give props to Chandler Hamilton for its victory over Miami Booker T. Washington on Friday. The Huskies traveled across the country and beat the Miami Herald’s No.1 team and the defending 4A Florida state champ in its own backyard. Every Arizona school should thank Hamilton for representing the state so well.”

And this: And stay tuned for a much bigger and more telling matchup on Friday when Hamilton faces defending 5A-I state champ Phoenix Brophy in what is rapidly becoming the state’s best rivalry.

This is a newspaper. We look at things from all sides.

    Thanks for your opinion.

Only your 1st. paragraph is positive. Hamiliton is a football power. Look at the overall win-loss record since the school opened. While your at it print a article about how succesfull the freshman and JV football teams are too. Go Hamilton Huskies

No question Hamilton is a state football power and one of the state’s most consistent programs. My point was there’s no way of knowing if they are a “national” power on the basis of one game.

It’s funny how there are so many Hamilton Haters out there. Hamilton was the major underdog. When they proved everyone wrong here goes another excuse. Well let me tell you 4A or not no other AZ team could beat BTW. You will see this Friday against Brophy when Hanilton pounds them you will come up with another excuse. Believe it or not the Huskies have a great program and it will continue despite the Haters. Hamilton has the most difficult schedule in AZ, and they will prevail, followed by the Haters once again. You have to respect the PROGRAM.
